Accounting software vs. field operations software
FreshBooks is built for invoicing and bookkeeping for freelancers and small businesses.
MotionOps is built for running the work itself: crews, schedules, job sites, and payroll prep.
It doesn't replace your accounting. It syncs with QuickBooks Online, which stays your books.

- No scheduling, dispatch, GPS crew tracking, or job checklists.
- No change orders, and each team member adds $11/mo.

Is MotionOps a good alternative to FreshBooks?
It depends on what you need. FreshBooks is accounting and invoicing software; MotionOps is field service software. If your problem is scheduling crews, tracking work on site, change orders, and payroll prep, MotionOps covers that and syncs customers, invoices, and payments with QuickBooks Online. If you mainly need books and billing, FreshBooks does that well.
Does MotionOps replace FreshBooks accounting?
No. MotionOps is not an accounting tool: it has no chart of accounts, bank reconciliation, or financial statements. It handles quotes, invoices, and payments for your jobs and syncs them with QuickBooks Online, where your books live.
Does FreshBooks work with QuickBooks Online?
No. FreshBooks is its own accounting system and competes with QuickBooks Online. MotionOps syncs with QuickBooks Online on every plan: it imports your clients, keeps customers, invoices, and payments in sync, and reconciles automatically when you use MotionOps Online Payments.
Is MotionOps cheaper than FreshBooks?
Not for one person. FreshBooks Lite is $20.70/mo billed annually, against $39/mo for MotionOps Solo. With a team the gap narrows: FreshBooks plans cover the owner only and each team member adds $11/mo, while MotionOps Go includes up to 5 users for $119/mo. Card fees are about the same at 2.9% + $0.30. ACH is 1% on both, and MotionOps drops to 0.5% over $20k.
What does MotionOps do that FreshBooks doesn't?
MotionOps runs the field side: a drag-and-drop crew schedule, multi-crew dispatch, GPS clock in and out, job photos, checklists, and materials used. It adds change orders with customer signatures, employee files, skills tracking, day-off requests, and a payroll prep workflow. FreshBooks has none of the scheduling or field tools.
Who should stay on FreshBooks?
Freelancers and owner-operators who mainly send estimates and invoices and want their accounting in the same tool. If you don't schedule crews or dispatch jobs, FreshBooks' double-entry accounting, bank reconciliation, 30-day trial, and Gusto-built payroll add-on are a better fit.
Is it hard to switch from FreshBooks to MotionOps?
No. MotionOps is easy to set up and use from day one, with no steep learning curve. Every account gets a free onboarding session and phone support with real people, and larger teams get white-glove onboarding. Because MotionOps syncs with QuickBooks Online, decide with your accountant where your books will live before you move.
Can I change the plan?
UPGRADE: You can upgrade anytime. For monthly plans, the new price starts right away. If you choose annual plans, the total amount is charged upfront upon signing up as a client and is non-refundable if you cancel before the year is complete.
DOWNGRADE: For monthly plans, downgrades start with your next billing cycle. For example, if you signed up on the 1st of the month and requested a downgrade on the 15th, the new pricing will apply beginning on the 1st of the following month.
Does MotionOps offer a mobile app? Is there an additional cost for it?
Yes, MotionOps has a mobile app with no additional charge. This app has a variety of features that allow you to manage your MotionOps account through your smartphone or tablet. With the app, you can monitor your workers' activities, keep track of their progress, and stay up-to-date on your project management tasks. The mobile app is designed to be user-friendly, intuitive, and easy to use, making it an excellent tool for managing your business even while you're on the go.
Does MotionOps offer a free trial?
Yes, a 14-day free trial. FreshBooks offers 30 days with no card; MotionOps asks for a card at sign-up, and you can cancel within the 14 days without being charged. You can also book a demo first to see how MotionOps handles your crews and jobs.
